WE WILL BUILD A CHURCH AT VIIMSI PENINSULA

Both the people of Viimsi as well as the congregation need their own church building where they can perform divine services, baptize, wed, organise concerts, and youth and children events.
The Viimsi commune has allocated a lot for church building by the Rohuneeme Road at Pringi village. It is situated in the centre of the peninsula, which means that the church will be erected, so to speak, "in the middle of the village".
The Consistory of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church has fully realised the wish of Viimsi people and contributed 2.8 million EEK for the church building. In addition to that, the congregation has been donated approximately 1 million EEK for that purpose. The church building will cost approximately 7 million EEK.

THE VIIMSI ST. JAMES CHURCH BUILDING FOUNDATION has been established.

  • Its goals are as following:
    To build Viimsi St. James church;
  • To seek persons holding the same views and donators from Estonia and elsewhere;
  • To coordinate and answer for the collection for the building;
  • To ensure that the names of every donator will be worthily recorded in the finished church building.

VIIMSI ST. JAMES CONGREGATION

Viimsi St. James congregation is among the youngest Lutheran congregations in Estonia. It commenced its activities on 5 March A.D. 1994.
Every Sunday and church holiday a divine service is held in the hall of old Viimsi school, Nurme tee 3, starting at 11:30.
The congregation has a Sunday school, a choir, and a youth group. It has organised numerous church concerts and various other events where everybody has been welcomed. The Viimsi Family Home for children has been established; the congregation provides active welfare services at the Viimsi pension Rannapere.

The new church building will enhance Christian upbringing of children and young people.

The congregation includes over 200 members; it has bonds of friendship with Finnish and Swedish congregations. We can be characterized as a young and open community.

We are grateful for the success of our undertakings to the leadership of Viimsi commune, the staff of Püünsi school and all the benevolent people.

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9: 7

CONTRIBUTE TO THE CHURCH BUILDING!

The architects, Erkki Ristoja and Martin Aunin, have designed the church building so that it would harmonize with the coastal conditions of Viimsi. The church will provide 230 seats, a sacristy and a lobby. The belfry will be 13 metres high. The church is planned to be covered with weatherboarding from outside.

The architectural design of the church includes
A MEMORIAL CHAPEL FOR THOSE LOST IN SEA.

This is a modern church building, though its design takes into account classical canons of sacred buildings.

We will build a church to glorify God and for our own and our children's blessing
